To market our film, I had the idea of making an Ipod/Iphone/Ipad application available for free download from Itunes. The app would contain information about our film, cast interviews and the poster for our film, and would be available 2 weeks before the film was released in order to generate interest in our production. If the app was a success, an app could be created in the style of a mini game, where the player takes control of the main character and steals items from houses, of course this would have to be rated due to its content.
The app would also include details of the films release, which coincidentally would be released on Itunes, available for download for just 5 pounds. This would help market our film to a teenage audience as they are the most likely Itunes users, and it would also generate money from the selling of our film on Itunes.
On a smaller scale, a short making of documentary which we hope to produce, could also be relased on itunes for free, and could also be uploaded onto youtube. This would help promote interest in our film, showing the audience how we developed and produced our production.
Moreover, our film would most likely be shown before a major Hollywood blockbuster. For example, the animation company Pixar usually shows a short film before the main feature, e.g the Day and Night sketch before Toy Story 3. Furthermore, our film could be shown before other major blockbusters in independent cinema, and appear at film festivals. This would increase our films notoriety, helping us distribute our film onto a wider scale.
Failing all this, the most likely scenario would be to distribute our film onto youtube, where it could be seen by a wider audience, free of charge, but even still, the views the film could receive could lead to awards and TV and Film appearances, possibly film festivals, which would be quite an achievement.
In terms of merchandise, this would be difficult to produce due to the films certificate and the story. There aren't many possibilities, however a promotional offer for discount train tickets could be used on bottles of drinks or cereal boxes, and sweet and chocolate packets, however this would be highly unlikely as discount train tickets are not something everyone would go for, plus it hasn't been done before and seen as we are only a small production company, this seems beyond our capabilities.
